Will Anything Upset You?

Amos 6:1-6
“Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! Pass you unto Calneh, and see; and from there go you to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? You that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; that chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David; that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.”

If there has been any doubts as to the state of the corporate Church in America, the events surrounding President Obama and his endorsement of gay marriage over the last week should put all of them to rest.

Like many of you, I was not surprised by the president’s remarks given that this is an election-year and his vice president publicly announced his support for gay marriage three days earlier. To me, though Mr. Obama’s endorsement is egregious it is really not the most troubling part. What’s more alarming are the television interviews I saw with local pastors in my community the evening after President Obama made his announcement.

Our local news took it upon themselves to ask some of these pastors their opinion of Mr. Obama’s sudden change of heart and, to my utter dismay, the two they chose to show still maintained their ardent support for the president. Why? Because of the color of his skin. They continue to support him along with the likes of Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton – morality and Bible truth be damned . It doesn’t matter that we now have a president openly in favor of sexual immorality, as long as he gives them what they want they will support him.

Do you still doubt God’s judgment is at the door?

Amos chapter 6 talks very specifically about the leaders of Israel who were relaxing on couches, enjoying glorious feasts, being entertained with music, and all of that other nonsense as Israel was crashing down around them. The first six verses listed here apply to both political leaders and spiritual leaders, given the political makeup of Israel and how God first set up the system of governance in the book of Exodus. So if we apply what we read in this chapter to our current circumstances we can include both the politicians in Washington and the pastors in America’s pulpits.

President Obama, Vice President Biden, and all of the rest in Washington who think gay marriage is no big deal are continuing down the Primrose Path of destruction as though Jehovah God either doesn’t exist or is willing to change to satisfy the whims of humanity. Our pulpits are filled with men and, unfortunately women as well, who are so blinded by their own conceit they see nothing wrong with the federal endorsement of gay marriage.

At this point I must ask, can Washington do anything that will ever upset these pastors and pastorettes again? Will they be angry when the thought police show up on the doorsteps of their churches and start telling them what they can say from the pulpit? Will they care when the United States becomes like Switzerland; a state where all churches are government run and all pastors are employees of the government?

I suspect not.

Pastors who are willing to get behind President Obama have no moral compass of their own as proven by their willingness to support him. What should it matter if their congregations get flushed down the toilet in favor of political expedience?

My question to you is, how long you will stand for this utter abomination? How long will you continue to attend a church where your pastor openly defies God with a smile on his face? You are responsible for the church you attend; you are responsible for the “Bible study” you sit under; you are responsible for the doctrine you believe. If you don’t have the courage to find a church where the truth prevails you will be swept up in the judgment when it comes; just like millions of Jews who sat by and did nothing about their own faith even as their government embraced abject hedonism and idolatry.

My friends, if Rev. Wright was correct in his assertion that judgment was coming to the U.S., it’s not because of our actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, or the perceived racism Wright claims still permeates America. It is because he and a vast majority of America’s pastors have turned away from Jehovah and embraced unbridled idolatry. The collapse of America lies squarely at the feet of our churches who rebelliously shake their fists at God and refuse to live in obedient surrender.

Mark my words… you will not escape if you do not repent.

P.S. – I am a pastor myself. I know of which I speak.
